Building Jointly has been really fun, and this week gave us another highlight worth celebrating. Our co-founder, Aimee Schalles, was interviewed by The Globe and Mail for a new feature on prenups and why so many Canadians want one but never get around to signing.
We were thrilled to see our customers featured in the piece. Harman Dosanjh and her husband Jhanan built their prenup on Jointly ahead of their June wedding, sorted out everything from their individual assets to custody of Harman’s dog Link, and paid less than $500 for the whole process. The article also follows other couples who spent years and tens of thousands of dollars caught in drawn out, adversarial negotiations, which made Harman and Jhanan’s experience stand out. Reading a couple describe using our platform to build something that fit their lives, collaboratively and affordably, is really rewarding.
Aimee also shared what she’s seeing across the board: younger Canadians bringing more individual assets into relationships earlier, often with a parent’s help on a down payment, and a growing recognition that cohabitation agreements deserve the same attention as prenups given how differently the law treats married and common-law couples from province to province.
